BASE

I created this theme to streamline my free theme development process. The result is a very solid WordPress theme, covering all the basic features a standard WordPress theme should have…plus one or two extras. BASE is extremely easy to customise.

@Roger: Yeah, you can see this as the first install. You can expect some free themes built on BASE very soon! :)

I’m glad you like the code! Clean code was my main focus while building the theme :)

    Thanks very much for this.

I was looking for a clean theme with readable text settings, and this fits the bill wonderfully.

This is beautiful. It is a clean layout and has all the basic features one needs. Not to be too selective, but could you provide a stylesheet that would make this dark in color and provide the css file as an alternate to download to the white base? I think a dark version using the same colors as -http://www.vostoktheme.com/ would be perfect.

Also, how difficult would it be to move the menu to the other side of the page? I’m sure these would be a quick and easy mods for you, can you offer an alternate stylesheet with the few suggested changes?

@roger: lol, now I get it :) It does look like you were my first install for Base. cool :)

@Travis: I was definitely planning on releasing a darker version of BASE, maybe even incorporate it with the current version and adding an option to awitch between the two. Stay tuned… :)

I love it just the way it is. I would just change the font to a Serif and go with it. I will probably use it for my blog at http://www.VictorJulian.com.

    Great work!

This is a really clean, good-looking theme, Cobus. :-) I’m playing with it for a photoblog. That’s still only in the sandbox, but I don’t think BASE will require much tweaking for my purposes (only reducing space around and the font size of certain styles to make it more compact). I’ll let you know when (if?) I take this grand ego-trip live… ;-)

@Zara: Awesome! I’m glad you like the theme! And please do let me know when you go live, I’d love to see my theme put to good use :)

    Sigh.

I love it, but get this:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: the_tags() in /home/kvitshco/public_html/wp-content/themes/_base_/index.php on line 35

    roger   July 19, 2008 at 12:26 pm #

    Great theme! Very exciting!

I have checked how the theme looks on different computers and different desktop sizes: on every computer I have checked, the homepage looks fine, but when viewing a single post some computers show it correctly – and others put the sidebar at the end of the post.

Is it the sidebar width? Could the width be different from the homepage? Could it be the comment form?

I have tried to find where you define the CSS values for the overall width, the posts width, the comment form width and the sidebar width – but could not find them.
Can you help me out and point in the right direction?

    Thanks.

Same issue than RadPoe: the sidebar appears under the post in the single post view. Any idea where this is coming from ? On my mac (with safari) it appears properly on the side but on my PC, IE shows the sidebar below the post…
Thanks for any ideas that may help !

I’m having the same problem that TomTom mentions with IE. Every other browser displays it properly.

Do you have any suggestions about that?

P.s – just to explain, it displays perfect in firefox but the sidebar disappears underneath the posts in internet explorer?.. is this possible to fix? I’m no coder, and cant seem to find any answers via google.

I need the sidebar so hoping you might know the answer.

    Thanks again :)

Love the template mate, there were a couple things that I thought you could change to make it even more SEO Friendly (things that can’t be changed with plugins). You can find it on my blog at:

dude. LOVE the base theme. I’m a novice dork. How do I load the css into the Wordpress CSS Stylesheet Editor? Presuming I just copy and past the style.css into the editor? Thanks.
